How to Play the Daily Challenge
The Daily Challenge is the fastest way to play Sorting History. One puzzle, 4 events, a surprise category, under 5 minutes. The same challenge for every player worldwide, every day.
How It Works
- Open Sorting History. The Daily Challenge card is right on the main menu — you can't miss it.
- Tap the card. It shows today's surprise category. No setup, no configuration. Just tap and play.
- Sort 4 events. You'll see 4 historical events from that day's category, one at a time. Place each event on the timeline in chronological order. Two ways to place:
- Tap: Scroll the timeline left or right to find your spot, tap an arrow, then tap Place Here.
- Drag and Drop: Long-press the event card until it lifts, then drag it into position on the timeline and release. Default on iPad; switch in Settings → Placement Method.
- See your results. After all 4 events, you'll see your score, accuracy, and which category you played.
That's it. Open, sort, done. The whole thing takes under 5 minutes.
What Makes the Daily Challenge Different
- Same puzzle for everyone. Every player worldwide gets the exact same events in the exact same order. The category and events are determined by the date. Compare your results with friends — you had the same challenge.
- Surprise category. You don't pick the category — the game picks it for you. The category rotates daily through all available categories, so you'll see a different topic each day.
- One attempt per day. Once you finish today's challenge, that's it until tomorrow. No replays, no do-overs. This keeps it fair.
- No setup required. Unlike a regular game, you don't choose categories, difficulty, or game length. Everything is pre-configured. Just tap and play.
- Available on all tiers. The Daily Challenge is free for everyone, including players on the free tier.
Making It a Daily Habit
The Daily Challenge is designed to be a quick daily routine. Here's why it works:
- Under 5 minutes. Short enough to play during a coffee break, commute, or waiting room.
- No decision fatigue. No setup means you don't have to think about what to play. Just open and go.
- Builds general knowledge. Because the category changes every day, you gradually learn across all topics — even ones you wouldn't normally choose.
- Social comparison. Text a friend "I got 4/4 on today's Daily Challenge" and they know exactly what you mean, because they had the same puzzle.
Daily Challenge Tips
- Don't rush. There's no timer. With only 4 events, it's worth taking a few extra seconds to read each description carefully.
- Use context clues. Event descriptions mention technologies, people, and places that hint at the era.
- Don't worry about unfamiliar categories. Part of the fun is being surprised by a topic you don't know well. You'll learn something either way.
- Play every day. Consistency is the best way to build your historical knowledge across all categories.
