Dutch History and South American History — our first post-launch categories, paired with our Dutch and Spanish language editions. After that, one new category every two weeks — one chosen by community vote, one by the Sorting History team.
Free is real. 9 categories, 900+ events, full game, no time limit. There are ads between rounds and a small banner — that's it. No paywall popups, no "upgrade to keep playing" nag screens. If you want the other 4 categories ad-free, Explorer is $1.99/month. If you want the deep epic packs (500+ events each) and History Pinpoint, Historian is $2.99/month. You can also unlock any premium category for 1 hour by watching a single ad — no purchase needed.
No. The game ships with 1,300+ researched events across 13 categories. One new category drops every two weeks — one chosen by community vote, one editorial pick. The game tracks what you've already seen and prioritizes events you got wrong, so the same questions don't keep cycling back. This isn't 55 cards you memorize and finish.
No account. No email signup. No "log in with..." anything. Just download and play. Your progress lives on your device. We don't track who you are; we have nothing to leak.
Yes — fully offline once installed. Flights, commutes, the back of the car, the kids' iPad in the kitchen. Solo play, Daily Challenge, Pass & Play (one device), and Learning Mode all work with airplane mode on. Network Play is the only mode that needs WiFi (because it connects two devices).
Yes. Rated 4+. No chat, no usernames, no profiles other people can see, no in-game messaging, no online lobbies, no user-generated content. Friendly mode removes penalties so wrong answers don't sting. Every event ends with a short explanation, so kids actually learn the history behind each one. Pass & Play turns one phone into a 2–6 player game — no extra devices, no setup.
You don't pick A, B, C, or D — you place each event in its actual position on a timeline. Get it close to the right year, score high. Get it far off, score low. Multiple choice lets you guess; this makes you commit to what you actually know. It's the closest digital experience to the Timeline board game, but with 1,300+ events that grow every two weeks instead of 55 cards in a box.
You'll learn faster than you'll lose. Friendly mode has no penalties for wrong answers — pick it for relaxed play. Every event you misplace shows you the correct year and a short explanation, so the wrong answers are where most of the learning happens. Turn on Learning Mode and the game uses spaced repetition: the events you struggle with come back more often until you master them.
